FAQs

What is a civil celebrant?
Celebrants construct & conduct personalised ceremonies for all sorts of occasions, offering a flexible, inclusive approach that fits the occasion to the individual.

Where can we have our ceremony?
The great advantage of having a ceremony conducted by a civil celebrant is that you can have it literally anywhere you want. Geographically, I am happy to travel wherever you would like the ceremony to take place, be it a castle in Scotland, your local park or your favourite pub.

Is the service you conduct legally binding?
In a word - no. Currently, in England and Wales, the solemnisation of your marriage can only take place under the auspices of a religious figure or a registrar. The advantage of a celebrant-led ceremony is the freedom to celebrate your day wherever and however you like. For funerals, naming ceremonies & renewals of vows, there are no legal requirements or qualifications.

What happens if you/we need to cancel?
I understand that circumstances change and that you may need to cancel or postpone your ceremony. My terms & conditions provide more information; similarly, should I be unable to conduct the ceremony, I will endeavour to find a suitable substitute, subject to your agreement.

Will you write our vows?
Should you wish, I am happy to assist you to write your vows. Usually, this means helping you to find your own words and making sure that you’re on the same page as your partner.

Besides weddings, what other ceremonies do you conduct?
The short answer is, anything! For more detail, see my services, or send me an email with your ideas and let’s talk.

Are your ceremonies religious?
Whilst I do not have religious beliefs of my own, I am happy to incorporate any spiritual or religious elements that are important to you or your loved ones.

Are you a wedding planner/event planner?
I have lots of experience in this field, and am happy to offer advice & suggestions, but I will be your celebrant for this occasion, and experience has taught me it is best to wear that hat all day!

Are you qualified?
There is no certified qualification required to be a celebrant, however I trained with and am a member of the fantastic Fellowship of Professional Celebrants
